We're not your typical architectural firm - and that's kinda the point. Started back in 2012, we've always believed that old buildings have stories worth keeping, even while cities need to grow.
Every project's a conversation between what was and what could be. We don't tear down history to make room for the future - we find ways to make them work together. Sometimes that means restoring a century-old facade, other times it's designing a net-zero office tower. Either way, we're thinking about the next hundred years.
Jade, Vronthal, and Quinth met during a heritage preservation conference in Montreal. We'd all been working at bigger firms, feeling like something was missing. Over too many espressos, we sketched out what eventually became our studio on a napkin - no joke, we still have it framed somewhere.
The Distillery District adaptive reuse project put us on the map. Everyone said we couldn't make a 1890s industrial building work as modern office space while keeping its character intact. Took us 18 months and way too many late nights, but we proved 'em wrong. That project taught us more than four years of school ever did.
We got our LEED certifications and started really digging into sustainable design. Not just slapping solar panels on roofs - we're talking passive heating, rainwater systems, materials that don't wreck the planet. It changed how we approached everything.
Moved into our Queen West space and brought on twelve more talented folks. We've got structural engineers, urban planners, interior designers - basically assembled a crew that can handle projects from concept to the last doorknob. Still feels like a tight-knit family though, just with more coffee consumption.
Won the Heritage Toronto Award for our work on the Gooderham Building restoration. That one was personal - we'd walked past that building for years, watching it deteriorate. Getting to bring it back to life while making it functional for today? That's exactly why we do this.
We're working on three net-zero developments, a couple of heritage restorations, and honestly, some projects we can't talk about yet. The team's grown to 24 people, but we're still those three architects who believe buildings should respect their past while embracing their future. Just with better coffee now.
24 architects, designers, and planners who actually care about this stuff. We've got folks who geek out over Victorian-era brickwork and others who dream in parametric design. Mix of veterans and young talent who keep us honest.
Listen first, design second. Every building, every neighborhood has its own story. We spend time understanding what makes a place tick before we start drawing lines. Sometimes the best solution isn't the flashiest one.
The studio today - still sketching on napkins, just digital ones now
